'Living work of art' Fabiola dies in Amsterdam

The local celebrity and 'living work of art' Fabiola has passed away last night, at the age of 66.

Fabiola was the artist name of Peter Alexander van Linden. Fabiola grew up in Germany and Belgium, and in the 1960's she moved to Amsterdam.

She became famous in the 70's, when she climbed a pedestal in Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam's modern art museum), and then paraded the halls of the Stedelijk for several weeks. This way she became known as 'living work of art'.

On many occasions Fabiola would decorate public events, such as Gay Pride, Queen's Day, Hartjesdagen and many other demonstrations and get-togethers. She became known for her outrageous, self-made outfits.
Fabiola wanted to celebrate freedom and tolerance.

Fabiola was diagnosed with cancer in 2012, and died last night. She has said that her cremation must be a 'happening'.

The funeral will be on Friday afternoon (February 1), at the cemetery Zorgvlied. Before the funeral there will be a farewell ceremony on Waterlooplein square. The coffin will be transported by boat on the river Amstel to Zorgvlied.
