Insectarium opened in Artis, the Amsterdam zoo

Today the new Insectarium was opened in Artis, Amsterdam's zoo.

Thousands of insects have been moved to the renovated monumental building. The collection contains 70 different kinds of insects, including some endangered species. Artis takes part in the European Endangered Species Programme to prevent these species from becoming extinct.

In the new Insectarium it is possible for children to do several activities. You can make your own cobweb, design your own insect, look with an infra-red camera into an ant nest, and other things.

The Insectarium is the biggest on the European continent.
