Huis met de kogel (Alkmaar)

Huis met de kogel (Alkmaar)

The Huis met de kogel ('House with the bullet') is a 16th century monument in the centre of Alkmaar.
In 1573, when Spanish soldiers besieged the city of Alkmaar, a cannon ball hit this house. The inhabitants survived unharmed, though. The cannon ball now hangs on the outside of the gable of the house, making it one of the tourist attractions in Alkmaar.
Although a cannon ball really hit the house, the cannon ball that you see nowadays on the gable has been placed later.

The house is one of the two remaining wooden houses in Alkmaar.

The house itself is now rented to tourists as a vacation rental, and is not otherwise open to the public.
