News of: Friday, February 11 2005,
The first official indoor skateboard park in Amsterdam has been opened yesterday by Alderman Ahmed Aboutaleb.
The skateboard park (in Dutch) is located in the North part of Amsterdam, in a former dockyard (NDSM wharf).
The park was built by skateboarders themselves, and on their own initiative. After years of unofficial housing of the park and trying to look for funds, they have now succeeded in getting money from the city of Amsterdam.
On February 12 the park will open to the public.
Update (February 17):
The skatepark has been closed again, because the fire department has not approved of the safety of the building in which the skating park is located.
