Edam is a very pretty (small) old town, about 25km/15mi North-West of Amsterdam. The old centre has some nice canals, there's a museum, and a huge (for a town of this size) old church. It even has its own Dam Square.

There are some shops and cafes in the old town.

Like Amsterdam, the town blossomed in the 17th century.
