The Austrian architect firm Delugan Meissl has been chosen to design the new Filmmuseum in Amsterdam.
The new museum is to be located behind the Central Station, directly across the IJ (the water behind the station).
The current location of the Filmmuseum is in a 19th century building in the Vondelpark. The new location will be along the water front.
The Filmmuseum collects and maintains Dutch and international cinematographic heritage (from 1896 to date). The collection has i.a. 35.000 film titles, 50.000 movie posters 500.000 pictures.
The new building will have 4 theatre halls, with between 80 and 300 seats. There will also be space for exhibitions, educational activities, a library and study room, a cafe and restaurant and a shop.
The building is expected to be opened in 2009.
