De Hallen

De Hallen

De Hallen ('The Halls') is a large complex in Amsterdam 'Old West' that used to be a street tram station.
After it became out of use, it was eventually decided to convert the complex into a large (covered) centre with shops, a cinema, a large food market, a hotel and a restaurant.
The project is almost, though still not completely finished, but presently (March 2017), the food stalls are in full operation, and the new cinema the Filmhallen has started.
There are also some shops, a restaurant and a library.

The Hannie Dankbaarpassage is the (covered) pedestrian street that runs through the complex (and connects it with the street market Ten Kate Markt).

De Hallen have become a very trendy and popular place to meet and have something to eat. Together with the adjacent street market Ten Katemarkt, this is a new hotspot for Amsterdam West, drawing many visitors every day.
