Closed Amsterdam brothel 'Yab Yum' continued as escort agency

Yab Yum, the brothel that was recently closed down by the Amsterdam city authorities, will continue as an escort agency.

The brothel, the most (in)famous one in the Netherlands, was closed down on the grounds that criminal activities were suspected. Its licence was withdrawn.

For an escort agency no licence is needed.

The question is how long Yab Yum can continue as an escort agency, however. Amsterdam is preparing legislation that makes it necessary for escort agencies to also apply for a licence. Part of the application will be a financial screening, the same way as with brothels. This means the licence might again be denied or revoked.
