If you lost (or found) something, you can go to the Amsterdam lost&found department, Bureau Gevonden Voorwerpen.
Apparently, a lot of people are honest enough to bring items they found to this office, so if you lost something you can always give it a try here.
Found objects can also be handed in at a police station.
