The Brouwersgracht canal has been voted by readers of the Amsterdam newspaper Het Parool as the most beautiful street in Amsterdam.
The Brouwersgracht (location) is a canal in the Jordaan area, in the West part of Amsterdam-Centre.
1700 readers took part in the election, which took several rounds.
Of course there are many canals in Amsterdam, that are also really beautiful, but the Brouwersgracht reportedly has some characteristics that makes it stand out. The Brouwersgracht canal is a bit narrower than the other big canals, which gives it a more intimate atmosphere. Also, the canal boasts various old warehouses (that are now mostly apartments), and there are many old houseboats.
The top 5:
1 Brouwersgracht 1784 votes
2 Nieuwendammerdijk 1694
3 Amstel 1678
4 Begijnhof 1353
5 Prinseneiland 1240
The first real street on the list is Henri Polaklaan, before that are mostly canals, one court and one island.
