Blijburg beach

The beach near Blijburg has opened again, on May 1 2015. The Blijburg cafe opened on October 23, 2015. This is the main place to eat and have a drink, but there are also a few small fast food places.

The Blijburg cafe has two floors, with a restaurant, several bars and outdoor seating. Blijburg moved to several places on IJburg, the new islands expansion of Amsterdam. On the current location it can stay for at least 11 years.

Blijburg beach is the best-known urban beach in Amsterdam.
It is a real beach, with real sand along water where you can swim (you are only allowed to swim in the designated area).
It is located on the Centrum Island, which is part of IJburg, the newly created islands in the East of Amsterdam.

The beach is one of the official swimming locations, meaning that the water quality is monitored by the provincial authorities. If this is not good enough, this will be indicated with signs.

You can get there by car, by bike or with tram line 26 (starts at Central Station): go to the end of the line, then walk about 10 minutes along Pampuslaan.
