Black ice warning in the Netherlands for Christmas Eve and night

The ANWB has issued a black ice warning for this evening.

Rain or wet snow is expected later in the evening, spreading over the entire country. When the downfall hits the ground, it may turn into ice immediately, creating extremely slippery roads.

In Amsterdam, particularly the bridges are notorious for becoming slippery. When there is black ice, they become almost impossible to cross.

The ANWB (the Dutch automobile association) advises not to drive in the evening. The advice applies from 9pm this evening (December 24) to 11am the next morning (December 25).

Starting tomorrow, temperatures above freezing are expected.
