On Saturday June 18, Mr Aqeela Sherrills from Los Angeles will speak at the youth centre Argan.
Aqeela Sherrills grew up in the notorious, war-torn neighbourhood Watts, in South Los Angeles. He lost 13 friends and his son in gang wars. In 1992 he managed to let the Bloods and the Crisps (2 of the gangs) sign a truce, and stop the fighting.
After this remarkable feat he travels around and attends debates about (gang) violence.
This Saturday he will attend a debate at Argan Youth centre, located at Overtoom 141, a few minutes' walk from Leidseplein square. Overtoom is the long street that starts near Leidseplein square and runs just west of the Vondelpark. Tram line 1 from Central Station goes there too.
The debate is from 7 - 10pm.
