Shop-lifters in Amsterdam may have to pay for damage they cause.
The city is going to have trial with letting the thieves pay for direct and indirect damage.
Indirect damage is (for instance) the cost of closing the shop temporarily, the cost of the security staff.
The test will be held in 2 shopping areas, to be determined in March.
