Amsterdam policy to tow away cars with valuables

The Amsterdam police will start towing away cars that have valuables visibly lying around in the car, such as laptops, cell phones and navigation systems.

The reason for the initiative is the fact that about 70 victims report thefts from their car, every day. According to the police, this is very time consuming for the police and the victims. The police think they can help prevent crime this way.

Towed away cars can be collected free of charge at the police station.

The police will also deploy decoy cars to catch thieves, and place extra warning signs near parking lots.
