In 2013, the City of Amsterdam collected an all-time record of euro 166 million on parking fees.
This is euro 9 million more than in 2012.
The record is caused partly by an increase of the cost of parking licences for inhabitants of Amsterdam, and by an expansion of the area where paid parking is in effect.
The largest part is however caused by more, and more effective enforcement of the parking laws. The enforcement is done more often by electronic scanning. Electronic scanning made it possible to carry out 3 times more checks, with half the staff.
Also, parking fines for foreign cars can be collected better, due to improved international cooperation.
