Amsterdam metro struck by lightning

The metro in Amsterdam has come to a standstill from 7.30 pm this evening. The cause is the thunderstorm that went over Amsterdam this afternoon and evening.

All metro stations have been closed, and only line 51 to RAI is partially in service.

It is unclear at this point how long the problem will last.

In other parts of the country the weather also caused problems. In Den Haag (The Hague) the Central Station was unreachable for trams for some time.

Incoming planes on Schiphol Airport were also hindered.

In the middle of the Netherlands there were train delays.
