Figures have shown that the most popular attraction of 2006 in the Netherlands was a canal boat trip in Amsterdam.
In 2006, 3.1 million people did a canal trip in Amsterdam, which means the old number 1 on the list had to move to position 2.
This was attraction park 'De Efteling' (in the south of the Netherlands), which attracted about 3 million visitors. De Efteling had been #1 for years.
Other Amsterdam attractions, like the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum did very well too. The Van Gogh sold 1.7 million tickets (and went from position 5 to 3, and the Rijksmuseum went from 14 to 9 (1.1 million visitors).
Number 4 and 5 on the list are 2 zoos: Burger's Zoo (in Arnhem) Diergaarde Blijdorp (in Rotterdam).
Amsterdam attractions probably did so well because of the Rembrandt 400 year, which was held last year on the occasion of the famous painter's 400th birthday. The number of visitors to Amsterdam went up 6%, to 4.6 million.
