What many visitors of Amsterdam don't know is that there is no public transport in the Netherlands between 8pm and midnight on New Year's Eve.
Trains, buses, metros, ferries and trams in Amsterdam stop their services after 8pm.
The exception in Amsterdam is the Buiksloterweg ferry (connects Amsterdam North with the rest of Amsterdam for cyclists and pedestrians). This ferry is always operational, day and night.
Night buses in Amsterdam resume their service from 1.30am and the trains (NS railways) start again at 1am (where there is a nightly service, such as to the airport).
