Action group Extinction Rebellion blocks major road in Amsterdam

Today the action group 'Extinction Rebellion' has blocked the road Stadhouderskade, one of the main roads in Amsterdam. The road block is in front of the Rijksmuseum.

The group wants to draw attention to the climate crisis world wide. Similar road blocks have been set up in other cities.
The road block started this morning and is still going on. The police have ordered the protesters to move to Museumplein square, in order not to hinder traffic, but they have not yet obeyed. Police have removed several dozens of the protesters, of the several hundreds that are sitting on the road.

The road block may list until the end of the day. The police have not yet decided to remove the road block with violence, but may do so later on.
