The acoustics of the new concert building 'Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ' (formerly known as the IJsbreker) get wide acclaim from experts.
Just a little bit of music performed by the Schönberg Ensemble, last weekend, proved for specialists that the acoustics of the new hall is wonderful. The experts in the audience were all impressed.
The new hall (along the IJ-shores, behind the Central Station), has a ceiling that can be lowered to create variable acoustics.
The Muziekgebouw is going to be the new centre for modern music in Amsterdam, but will also stage music from the baroque period, renaissance and music from other ethnic traditions.
April and May 2005 will mainly be used for 'test concerts', the official opening of the Muziekgebouw is on June 15.
